Over 50 Grasshoppers, Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts and Scouts living in Sai Kung, Clearwater Bay and Ma On Shan joined in the biggest event of the year in the English-speaking Scouting calendar on March 6, 7 and 8.  It was the Silver Jubilee District Camp at Ma Tso Lung camp near Sheung Shui.

Group Scout Leader Lizzie Riggs said more than 400 children, Scout leaders and volunteers were involved in the two night camp.  Sai Kung, Clearwater Bay and Ma On Shan areas were represented by 192nd Kowloon Group, based at Beacon Hill School, 299th East Kowloon Group, which meets at Pak Sha Wan, and 1694th Silver Jubilee Group, headquartered at Renaissance College. Lizzie is Group Scout Leader of the 299th East Kowloon Group.

“The children were all given challenges appropriate for their age,” Lizzie said.  “For theeng young ones it may be the first time they have been camping with their Pack. They have to mix with new people and try new things.”

The older Scouts built a rope course, bridge and playground out of bamboo and ropes.  Scouts and Cub Scouts erected the tent city. Cub Scouts went hiking and visited an organic farm. Grasshoppers, Beaver Scouts and Cub Scouts took part in a mini-Olympics followed by a BBQ and campfire-singing.
