The game started with 10 minutes of sustained pressure from Hunter Hills who camped on Stingrays under 13s line. They were held out by tenacious Stingray defence. Against the run of play Stingrays managed to string a few phases together and the ball was shipped out to the left wing. Stingrays scored in the corner. (5-0). From the restart the Hillies again camped on Stingrays line eventually going over in the corner. Try converted (5-7).

rugby2Stingrays then went up a gear resulting in a repeat of the first try and a try up the middle from a penalty as one player forced his way over under the posts. Conversion unsuccessful (15-7).

The Hillies then came back. One of their many big lads broke the line and scored from 30m setting up a nail biting last ten minutes. Try converted (15-14).

Roared on by home support, Stingrays pulled away in the last ten minutes scoring two unanswered tries to seal the game 27-14.

A fantastic game of rugby from two evenly matched teams (apart from size, not sure what they feed those Hillies on!) played in a great spirit. The evening was concluded with presentations to both teams and then the players were able to swap rugby stories over dinner in the King’s Park club house.
