Expanded youth camp hidden in Tai Mong Tsai estuary now hosts vast numbers of kids

youth-camp-1Expansion of the Tai Mong Tsai youth camp, which most people are unaware of because it is hidden from view, has been completed and it is hosting vastly increased numbers of youngsters.

With Jockey Club money, camp bed spaces have been raised from 256 to 460. Seven new three-storey dormitories were built plus a cafeteria and activity room block. All are low rise and not visible from the road. The camp is managed by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups. To be eligible to attend, you must be six to 35 years of age and a member of the HKFYG.

The location is along from Outward Bound at Cheung Shan on the estuary of the Tsai Mong Tsai Stream. Activities are Outward Bound-like: rafting, canoeing, climbing, abseiling, archery, snorkling and orienteering.

The camp will now be host to more than 100,000 kids a year.
