Sunday, October 23rd was the day.  7 teams.  68 hikers. They started at 8:30 am at 5 different locations on the 100 km trail.  9 hours later it was done.  More than 100 bags of garbage. More than 5000 items had been moved to bins at the trailheads.  So many great stories. So much positive feedback from other trailwalkers.  The team clearing Stage 3, one of the most challenging, included a 3 year old!  The teams clearing Stages 4 to 10 were made up almost exclusively of Filipina and Indonesian helpers who spend their weekly day off walking our trails, rather than sitting in Central!  They were motivated by camaraderie and wanting to give something back to Hong Kong, their place of work.

So now it’s time to start thinking about our next action.  You can follow us on www.cleanuphktrails.org and learn about our upcoming activities on our Facebook page, cleanuphktrails.

STOPPRESS: We had our second CleanUp Action on Sunday 27th November  between the East Dam Wall and Sai Wan on M1/2.  Beautiful day weather-wise  (appalling the day before!) and another 40 bags of mainly old plastic bottles (>400) cleaned from the trail margins in a fun 5 hours for all participants.  The concluding beers, chow fan & ho fan on the Sai Wan beachfront went down very well indeed!
