SAI KUNG BUZZ got hoodwinked, fooled by a spoof. We are embarrassed. We apologise to Courtney Link, her canine companion Dexter and readers who were misled.
Next we will explain what happened.
Then we will out the perpetrator.
On Facebook we spotted one of the best portraits of a dog we have seen. It was by Peter Yuen, the animal photographer. Intrigued, we started digging and found Courtney, who lives in Ho Chung with Dexter and her husband. She told us an extraordinary story about Dexter’s survival of misadventures, including abandonment and a python attack, as well as his recent starring roles on television and radio. (He just slept through the session at RTHK.) We rattled out a story and had it checked by Courtney. Read here.
A day or two after publication on SAI KUNG BUZZ, an email pops up from “Barry Blaisewood” saying a film is in pre-production about “the amazing story” of Dexter and Courtney. The film is to be called “The Pet Nanny” and will star Vikings actor Katheryn Winnick in the title role.
A BUZZ writer spots this, likes it, and hits the keyboard. An update to our story, “Dexter, Top Doggie Adventurer and Canine Media Star”, about the coming movie is published on-line.
Courtney, ever alert, sees the update and emails, “there is not a word of truth in it.”
Ding! We realise we have been hoodwinked. Red faces all round.
Questions are asked. Who is Barry Blaisewood? The usual searching fails to find him. Our newshounds broaden their hunt, sniffing here and snuffling there. Contacts around town are consulted.
Bingo! A lady says she knows who Barry Blaisewood is. The bloke who hid behind the pseudonym to con BUZZ. She says, “He is a much loved and special friend with a brilliant imagination.”
Matt Nish is outed.
