Sai Kung Stingrays hosted the German Sevens team at the stadium on April 2 as the Rugby 7s season in Hong Kong got underway. Minis-Chairman Matt Weston said the Germans played touch rugby with the Under-14 Stingrays for 90 minutes, then posed for photographs and signed autographs. The visit by the international players was arranged by Tom Gerigk of Dickie Toys who is a Stingrays sponsor.
Youngsters from the club will be seen at the Sevens in showcase games before the main matches on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Matt said. The girls will also be playing in the women’s international tournament at So Kung Po.
On March 31 and April 1, Stingrays competed in the All-Girls AGT Tournament at King’s Park. “It bucketed down on Friday and we all had a lot of fun,” Matt said. “We believe this tournament may be the biggest girls rugby event in the world.” Teams from Singapore and Australia visited for the event. Stingrays girls won the Under 19s and Under 12s divisions.
