Butcher King is facing new competition as TC Deli opens on April 15 a few doors away on Yi Chun Street. TC Deli was created by Danish entrepreneur Henry Thiel, who also runs its outlet at 10 Hang Hau Lung Road, Tseung Kwan O, and the neighbouring restaurant, Lardos Steak House.
Sai Kung’s TC Deli is lined with big fridges, the decor is simple red, white and blue butcher’s tiles. Imitation sausages hang from the ceiling.
Sami Verho, Finnish owner of the Chef’s Choice chain, had looked at the same site (formerly Oscar’s) before electing to retire from the Sai Kung market, at least temporarily. Sami ran the elegantly fitted out Chef’s Choice at Tak Lung Back Street, Old Town, just around the corner from Council Chairman George Ng’s office. Sami had to give up that site, because he found unauthorised building works prevented the store from getting fully licenced.
TC Deli offers fresh and frozen meats, fish and poultry. It will stock cheeses, sausages, pies, breads and patisserie products. Henry is also a purveyor of wholesale products to restaurants, hotels and clubs.
