The Victoria Recreation Club (VRC) Emerald Bay Classic open-water swimming races will be held on Sunday, 20 August 2017. Entries are still being accepted and the public will be welcome to watch. The VRC’s canteen will be open for visitors.
Beginning at 8:00 am, the races will cover 1.5 km and 3 km. Organiser Kenneth Thorley said anyone can enter who is “confident in open water and can swim the distances in the cut-off times — 45 mins for 1.5 km and 1 hr for 3 kms. “The course is triangular so swimmers remain in the calmer waters of Emerald Bay. Safety teams will be watching from motorboats and kayaks”.
Entry fee is $300, but Kenneth said it is a not-for-profit event. “It is for the community.” There will be trophies for the male and female champions as well as medals for place-getters.
