Senior Inspector Michael Lai has succeeded Max Yip as operations chief at Sai Kung station. This means he is second in command reporting to Chief Inspector Daniel Tsang.
Michael wrote, “I am glad to join the Sai Kung family and hope my experience in crime investigation will help in maintaining Sai Kung as a safe and peaceful place.” Now an Assistant Divisional Commander he joined the police 10 years ago after attaining a master’s degree in electrical engineering. For nine of those years he has been a detective in crime units and investigation teams in Sau Mau Ping, Kwun Tong and Kowloon East.
Michael is married with three children, including twin boys. He is 35 and a soccer lover, playing in the Amateur Football League.
Having three children seems to be de-rigueur for officers at Sai Kung station. About a month ago his boss Daniel produced his third child, a daughter, with wife Ling.
Max Yip, who became popular in Sai Kung because of his responsiveness and willingness to help, has been promoted to Chief Inspector and transferred to a special unit.
Michael may be contacted at advc-ops-skdiv@police.gov.hk Emails will be seen only during office hours. If police help is needed urgently call 999.
