The Transport Department has agreed to allow a new Green Minibus route from Pak Tam Chung to the East Dam at High Island Reservoir. This will make access to the area easier as well as, hopefully, deter the rip off taxi charges.
At its meeting on 18 January Sai Kung District Council Traffic and Transport Committee will consider a paper – SKDC(TTC)文件第27/18號 – that proposes a new minibus route, run by the company that currently runs the #9 route, on Sundays and Public Holidays. It would run from 3:00 pm – 9:00 pm and cost $11.30. The buses will run at 20-25 minute intervals, using two buses from existing company stock. The journey is 9.8 km.
The service details will be reviewed again about three months after the implementation of the project, and any appropriate adjustments and improvements to the service will be made if necessary.
In recent years, the police have been using plain clothes officers to crack down on the illegal taxis and charges from the East Dam. Off-duty taxi drivers charge $100 per person to pick up tourists from East Dam to Sai Kung town centre, at least four times the legal charges.
As Martin Williams has said (there is an electric bus service for tourists in Tengchong Volcanic Geopark, in Yunnan), can Sai Kung Buzz and the Friendsofsaikung HK request that this be an ELECTRIC minibus service for the Geopark?
