Patsy House Electrical Co Ltd, a staple of the centre of town since 1960s, is on the move. Owing to a rent increase the shop has to downsize, and it’s moving to the old Asia Foods shop in King Man Street, opposite the entrance to the Library complex. Patsy House has been in its present location for six years, previous to that in one of the shops along King Man Street near the children’s playground.
The owner, Greco Lam told BUZZ that the main reason for the move was a higher than expected rent rise. At the same time a substantial amount of business was now being done online and they didn’t need so much display space.
The company was started by Greco’s father in the mid 60s and has been a first port of call for many newcomers to the area, as well as providing stalwart and always helpful advice to old-timers too.
The new shop opens on 14 April and the old one will remain open till the end of the month. As the new shop is considerably smaller than the old one there will be stock that cannot be moved. Expect a relocation sale of the surplus stock to take place quite soon – watch this space.
Word on the street has it that Japan Home will move to take Patsy’s place – yet another victim of a greedy rent hike.
UPDATE
The sale starts today, 3 April.
