It seems the taxi touts were out in force over the holiday weekend, especially in popular areas of the Country Park not served by public transport.
The Traffic Police in the Sai Kung District took action against taxi overcharging from High Island Reservoir around 3:00 pm on Monday. During the operation,  plain clothes police disguised as passengers  took a taxi from the East Dam to the centre of Sai Kung.
When the taxi arrived at the destination, the driver demanded a fare of $250 (a reasonable fare is about $125). After the officer revealed his identity the 55-year-old,  surnamed Fung, was arrested on suspicion of overcharging. He has been released on bail pending investigation and he must report to the police in early May.
