Sai Kung welcomes three world-renowned classical musicians this weekend when Hong Kong Academy hosts the first season of concerts organised by the Sai Kung Sound Collective (Sasco). They will present an electrifying mix of chamber music, operatic scenes, improvisation, and works by living composers.
Among the renowned musicians are:
Richard Bamping – Principal Cellist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic since 1993
Yoonie Han – “most brilliant pianist aged 17 to 31 of any nationality who possesses the most promising potential for global prominence,” Gawon Music Awards
Born Lau – Principal Violinist of the Curtis Symphony Orchestra
Also taking part will be Patrick Yim – violin, Rebekah Au-Yeung – soprano, George Tsontakis – guest composer, Isaac Droscha – baritone, Artistic Director and Ilari Kaila – Composer-in-Residence.
Isaac Droscha is currently a lecturer and vocal teacher on the faculty of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Patrick Yim is Assistant Professor in the Department of Music at Hong Kong Baptist University.
Sasco is part of The International School Theatre Association (ISTA) Performing Arts Academy, Hong Kong, which is a place for students to collaborate with others to create their own work and a place to connect the talents of like minded young people.
The concert is being organised by Anne Drouet, an ISTA Board of Trustees member and founding member of ISTA Academy, Shanghai. Anne has been teaching music and musical theatre since 1994 and her work in and outside the classroom has taken her around the world. As a freelance composer (Anne Wu), Anne has worked with music legend John Altman and recently performed with Andy Summers from the Police. She has also composed music for film (Weinstein Films) and theatre projects.
She is now the Director of Performing Arts at the Hong Kong Academy and is hugely honoured to be setting up ISTA’s second permanent home.
