Man drowns in swimming accident after drinking on junk trip

Fire Services frogmen search for the missing man in Tsam Chuk Wan

Yesterday afternoon (20/6) a 26-year-old man went missing in Tsam Chuk Wan while swimming during a junk trip with 15 other people. Fire Services divers were called to search the water. When they found the victim he was unconscious and a Government Flying Service helicopter took him to Eastern Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately he was dead on arrival.

According to reports, and after preliminary investigation by the police, it is believed that the victim was swimming with a flotation device commonly known as the “Big Float” when the incident occurred. During the incident, the float became loose and the swimmer then sank. His companions and friends had seen the incident and went into the water to search and rescue to no avail. It is understood that the victim had been drinking alcohol before swimming, and the police are investigating the cause of his drowning. The remaining 15 people on the yacht were sent to the Marine Police Base to assist in the investigation.

It is reported that the police are now investigating whether everyone violated the gathering restriction order and do not rule out issuing fixed penalty notices to the persons concerned.
