72-year-old woman drowned at Silverstrand Beach after red warning flag hoisted

This morning (26/10) police received a report from a lifeguard, stating that a 72-year-old woman was found floating about 15 metres off Silverstrand Beach, Sai Kung. The lifeguard immediately rescued her and tried to resuscitate. When police officers arrived at the scene the victim was still unconscious and she was sent to Tseung Kwan O Hospital for treatment, where she was later certified dead. 

The cause of death is to be determined after an autopsy. Due to large waves, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced that red flags have been hoisted at Stanley Main Beach, Shek O Beach and Big Wave Bay Beach in the Southern District of Hong Kong Island; and Silverstrand Beach and Clear Water Bay Second Beach in Sai Kung District, indicating that swimming in these place is dangerous, and have appealed to the public not to swim there.
