Garage sales held at the University of Science and Technology have become so popular, Coordinator Jean Hudson says, that tables have been increased to almost 190 and the number of sales each year doubled.
The next summer sales in the university’s covered carpark will be at the end of May and the beginning of June
— the exact dates have yet to be finalised — Jean said.
She described demand for tables as “overwhelming”. Sales used to be one per season, winter and summer. Now two are scheduled in each season “to accommodate people on the waiting list”. Goods sold by residents and outsiders are new and secondhand.
Jean said the events are non-profit-making and the aim is to support environmental causes and charities.
Those backed by the UST Student Social Society and Operation Santa Claus are given priority. Admission is free and food, drinks and parking are available.
