Artist Gary Yeung believes Sai Kung would be more fun if it encouraged street murals. “The town would be brightened up if it had murals from different artists,” he said.
Gary has painted murals for the Urban Renewal Authority at Central Market and at Tsuen Wan. His pen drawings with water colours and paintings have been exhibited locally at Sai Kung Gallery and at the Hong Kong Academy. Recently he held an exhibition at a Wanchai gallery selling three works ranging from $3000 for a sketch up to $30,000 for a large oil painting.
This is his part-time work. A primary school teacher who lives at Lakeside Gardens, Gary is impressively qualified for an artist — he has a master’s in landscape architecture from HKU, a master’s in visual arts from Baptist U and a diploma in arts administration from Chinese U.
Gary said he is a founder of Urban Sketchers, a gathering of enthusiasts, who “sketch faithfully what we see and share it online. It’s a world-wide movement.”
