O Tau area plastered with notices demanding money

popo2Perps — as the Americans would put it — have plastered the O Tau area with notices demanding money. O Tau is the village of 12 houses in the valley on the left as you drive from the Tai Mong Tsai roundabout on Sai Sha Road.

The notices say the person living at a certain house owes them money and should contact them at the number given. The name of the entity demanding the money appears to be hand-written at the top, then a case file or ID number is given. At least four of the notices were pinned up on lampposts around O Tau.

Senior Inspector Janet Chan, operations boss at Sai Kung police station, said it seemed to be a civil matter not a criminal one. The police will open a “dunning letter” file and monitor the situation, but not take action unless evidence of loan-sharking or threatening behaviour emerged, Janet said.

The person concerned left O Tau some time ago and his flat is vacant.
