March will see a near-explosion of art and music in our town, according to District Officer Maureen Siu. There will be a jazz festival and an art fair, the latter a first.
The jazz festival will be held as before at the forecourt of the Tin Hau Temple. “They have been so popular in the past we will keep doing them annually and I hope more often than that.” Maureen said all types of music will be performed: golden oldies, folk, Chinese orchestra, philharmonic and Cantonese opera. The show will be on Saturday, March 5, from 5 to 8pm and is a joint project of the Sai Kung district office, district council and community centre. For information: Jerry Chau at the community centre 2798 9073.
The art fair will give artists of all types the chance to demonstrate skills, show their works and hold workshops for the public at three venues, Maureen said. They are Tin Hau Temple, Waterfront Park and Mei Yuen Street. She wants local, Hong Kong and international artists to take part. The show will be over two days, March 19 and 20 from 11am to 6pm. Organisation is again a joint effort of the council, district office and community centre. If you want to take part or have questions: Vivi Lau at the district office 3740 5309
