Sail blue water to Taiwan, then climb 13,000ft Xue Mountain with Outward Bound

Outward Bound likes to challenge people, so they have come up with this: Next month you can do blue-water sailing to Taiwan on OB’s yacht, then take five days to climb the snow-capped Xue Mountain, nearly 13,000ft high. All for just $17,500*.

The “Sea to Summit” course begins with three days of training on the yacht, a former ocean-going racer, supervised by the crew. Then the boat will turn its bow-sprite towards Taiwan. Participants will man the yacht 24-hours in shifts experiencing everything from sail handling to helming to navigation.

When they arrive ashore in Taiwan preparations for the mountaineering will begin. It is expected the group led by guides will take five days of trekking and camping to summit Xue Mountain. A spokesman for Outward Bound said individuals and family members may join this course from April 5 to 9. Other courses coming up at Outward Bound that anyone can join:
