Two contractors who dumped construction waste at Pik Sha Road, Sai Kung, have been convicted and fined $20,000 at Kwun Tong Magistrates Court earlier this month.
Officers of the Environmental Protection Department mounted “a blitz operation” and caught two men dusty handed, depositing eight bags of rubble and some plastic pipes on the roadside. The waste was from a swimming pool renovation project at a nearby housing estate.
A department spokesman said it is an offence to dump waste at a public space. A first offence can result in a fine of up to $200,000 and six month’s imprisonment.
