Nikolai Smirnov, 21-year-old co-owner of the new bar Momentai, has stopped being coy about its location: S2 on the waterfront. This is one of the most attractive locations in all of Hong Kong. With good management, it could go gangbusters, at least on weekends and holidays. Niko said the keys have been handed over and renovation begins today.
New flooring will be constructed plus a new bar. The furniture will be changed and a refurbished pool table installed. The site is large, open, yards from the sea and imaginative owners will be able to do a lot with it.
The General Manager of Momentai will be Courtney Horwood, also a co-owner. Niko will be Bar Manager, Steve Keys, formerly of Hebe 101, Head Chef. Another co-owner Michael Lam will be provide creative flair. He is an artist who will install electronic toys, such as Mortal Kombat, for adults to play with.
Niko said the house lager Sapporo will be $40 a pint. Target opening day is September 18.
On October 6 and 7 Momentai will host its first big events, performances by “Master of Jazz” Joseph Marchionne, who will fly in from Beijing to lead a band of local musicians. Joseph is a former Sai Kung resident.
