A number local newspapers have worked themselves into a lather over what appeared to be a serious child abuse case at Ho Chung San Tsuen. The Sai Kung police say, however, that it is not that bad.
“The case is straightforward and a one-off but not really serious in terms of medical findings,” Senior Inspector Michael Lai told SAI KUNG BUZZ. According to the Chinese press the family is surnamed Li. The father hit his 11-year-old daughter with rattan because of a behavioural issue. A neighbour saw this and reported it. The man, 44, was arrested while the girl was sent to Tseung Kwan O Hospital. She was admitted and “redness and tenderness found on her limbs,” Michael said.
A investigation is being carried out by a team from Wong Tai Sin regional headquarters. No charge has been laid and the father is on bail. Regarding the daughter, Michael said the Social welfare Department is looking into her welfare.
