For the first time the club that professes to be Hong Kong’s oldest is having an open day, or so it says in a press release. Suki Lai of Victoria Recreation Club (VRC) says the event will be on Saturday 12 May. The club has tried to make the occasion attractive for families, youngsters and sports fans. Suki says there will be a bouncy castle, face painting, stilt walking, a treasure hunt by High Heaven Ltd, dragon boating and stand up paddle boarding. The bar at Emerald Bay will be serving food and drinks during the event, from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm.

General Manager Robert Cook has told SAI KUNG BUZZ the club is holding a membership drive. The VRC has large leafy grounds sweeping down to the sea and an underused tree-shaded clubhouse. Picnic areas are by the water. The place is ideal for children and pets, but the club bans dogs. The entrance of the VRC, off Tai Mong Tsai Rd, is shared with Outward Bound.

  1. Think more people would use the club if the staff didn’t get bored and go home at random times , leaving you locked out and having to climb the side of the hill with all your stuff to find a gap in the fence to crawl through.
Not the best end to the day.

  2. “The place is ideal for children and pets, but the club bans dogs.” I’m curious about what sort of pets it’s ideal for…
