One hundred and sixty teams will contest annual dragonboat races on the waterfront on 18 June, according to Erica To of the Sai Kung District Community Centre. They will race in elimination rounds from 8:00 am every five to 10 minutes until the sweaty field is whittled down to just seven teams. The final, where the last teams paddling vie for the Cup, will be at about 1:30 pm, Erica said.

Meanwhile, a carnival atmosphere will be reigning on land. Red canopied booths offering games for kids will be lining the promenade. At Waterfront Park, there will be a choir performance, magic show, clowns and balloon twisting. Erica could not tell us who would be performing — “I’m the administration manager” selected to talk to BUZZ because of her Queensland-university English. “Many things are not yet settled. Meetings are still being held,” Erica said.
The 2018 Sai Kung Dragonboat Gala will see the racing on the sea in seven lanes with finish points near the promenade lasting from 8:00 am to about 2:00 pm and the Waterfront Carnival from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
