18 year old man struck by lightning on Maclehose Trail

Around 1:00 pm today an 18-year-old boy was struck by lightning as he was walking the MacLehose Trail Section 4 with six friends. They were close to the Ngong Ping Viewing Point, overlooking Sai Kung.
Firefighters and police rushed to the scene and a rescue helicopter was used to ferry the man to Eastern Hospital, where he was initially said to be recovering after falling into a coma. Sadly the man died around 2:15 pm.
The Hong Kong Observatory issued a thunderstorm warning at 10:48 am today, effective time to 2:00 pm, and squally thunderstorms were experienced over most of Hong Kong. A yellow rainstorm warning was issued at 12:15 pm.  At 12:05 pm, Waglan Island recorded gusts of more than 70 kph.
