Roberta Boffo and Wendell Paulus are too busy to organise their own wedding. They are currently renovating their new joint art studio and food mini-store on Man Nin Street. Roberta is exhibiting in the “Abstraction Distraction” art show opening tomorrow, 11 August. And next Thursday they will stage a pop-up shop at the Hive allowing people to sample “wonder product” Açaí berries.
When BUZZ made the crack they were working too hard to arrange their own marriage, Wendell laughed, a huge grin spread across his face. “We have been very busy lately. The wedding is coming soon.” No date has been set yet, Roberta said. It’s complicated organising family and friends in three countries, Suriname on the Amazon, Italy and Sai Kung.
Renovation of their new first-floor premises at the ex-Sai Kung Playhouse site more or less above U-Select is well advanced. Roberta said she is inviting people who wish to enroll their kids or themselves in art classes to visit next week. She expects to launch her first art show at the new studio in the first week of September. The mini-store designed around Açaí berry products will be ready in about two weeks. “We don’t want to start everything perfect,” Roberta said. “We will get open and evolve.” The opening party is likely to be in the first week of next month.
From tomorrow until 15 August Roberta will be exhibiting her art along with friends at H Studio on Wan King Path above the Standard Chartered Bank. The “Abstraction Distraction” art show also features work by Tamera Bedford, Lachlan Boyd, Ellie Boyd, Helen Boyd and Helen Fogarty.
