Local athletes raising funds to attend SUP World Championships after boards destroyed by Mangkhut

Six local athletes, five from local Blue Sky Sports Club, and together representing the Hong Kong Stand Up Paddle Board Association, have qualified to enter the 2018 ISA World Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) and Paddle Board Championship which will take place at Riyue Bay, Hainan Island, China from 23 November to 2 December.

Unfortunately, following Typhoon Mangkhut, the club paddle boards and dragon boats were badly damaged. Blue Sky has to focus on repairing the boards an boats to rebuild their business. They do not have sufficient funds to help team members travel to the competition.

They have set up a crowd funding site to try and raise US$9000, https://www.gofundme.com/support-hong-kong-athletesThe registration fee for the race costs US$300 per entry per person, and there are registration fees per division entry. To manage and guide he team they will have one coach and one team manager going with the athletes.

Alan Ng

The team, aged from 15 to 28, have spent many years training before they qualified to represent Hong Kong in the national race.
