Hong Kong’s rich delight in displaying wealth, so expect to see this “hypercar” zooming around the likes of Shek O Road or Tai Mong Tsai Road this year. It is Ferrari’s SF90 Stradale, going on sale in 2020. The car has a top speed of 210 mph (340 kph) and can accelerate from standstill to 100 km/hr in 2.5 secs.
The Stradale has a 7.9 kWh lithium-ion battery. It operates in four driving modes, selected by an eManettino knob on the steering wheel, depending on road conditions. It can be run solely on electric motors. Hybrid mode brings in the internal combustion engine as well. Performance mode optimises power while charging batteries. Qualify mode uses the powertrain to full potential.
The car is rated to produce total output of 1000 PS (735 kW; 986 hp) at 8000 rpm and maximum torque of 800 N-m (590 lb.ft) at 6000 rpm. The engine is mated to a new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. Electric Slide Control optimises torque distribution to the wheels for drifting around corners in style.
The Stradale shares its name with the SF90 Formula One car, the name standing for the 90th anniversary of the Scuderia Ferrari racing team. “Stradale” means for road.
