On 20 December 2018 a young woman was viciously attacked outside Lakeside Garden, Sai Kung around 3:00 am. Yesterday the case finally came to court, and the accused, a 24-year-old waiter, was remanded in custody and the case adjourned until 21 April 2020.
The 27-year-old victim, a visitor from the Mainland, met the accused at a friend’s dinner. The two drank and chatted at the waterfront of Saigon after the dinner, but when the woman said she was going home, the waiter suddenly grabbed hold of her, picked up a brick and hit her on the head 10 to 15 times, even after the victim passed out.
The waiter pleaded guilty to intentional wounding in the District Court yesterday. After seeing the photos of the injuries, the judge pronounced that “The punishment will reflect the seriousness of the attack, and the attack was very horrific.”
The woman came to Hong Kong to visit her mother with a two-way permit. She was sent to the hospital for treatment afterwards. It was confirmed that the nasal bone and right frontal bone were broken, there were traumas that penetrated the nose and through the upper lip, there were also fractures on the inside of both eye sockets, and a comminuted frontal sinus fracture. She stayed in the hospital for 16 days and was discharged back to the mainland by mid-January last year.
