History repeats itself; please help Sai Kung Stray Friends Foundation

Kate Ward’s nickname “Camberley Kate” is said to have been given to her by historian Sir Arthur Bryant in his book “The Lion and the Unicorn”

In the 1960s and 1970s Camberley Kate pushed her wagon everyday to get donations to keep dogs. She never turned away a stray dog… some things just don’t change!

I know so well the every day financial struggle to keep stray dogs in safe care. Our beautiful Home of Stray Friends shelter is close to collapse with funds to cover only another 2 months of running expenses.

Like Camberley Kate, I also can’t turn away a stray dog, especially hungry or in need of medical help. We have had to deal with many recent serious, surgical cases: Ah Bo (amputation), our shelter dogs Red Dog, Ella, Chung Chung, Indy, Pak Jai, Cashla, Marvin.

The last two weeks a number of rescue emergencies were reported to SKSFF: dog Peach (weak from maggot infestation) requiring surgery and clinic stay. TKO female who had such a severe leg injury that amputation was performed yesterday. Jimmy who will need surgery next Thursday to remove a huge bladder stone and tail amputation. Thankfully we may have a sponsor helping with Jimmy’s expenses.

We try hard to generate income selling soft toys, or anything donated to us, on the streets in all weather conditions, attend school fairs and various events but all has been halted with the Covid restrictions.

Our visitor numbers at the shelter have reduced with social distancing, and our donation stream has been drastically affected and our resources depleted. We are in troubled waters and need financial help fast!

SKSFF is the protector and lifeline to strays and dogs from many situations. With us, they are safe, well cared for and loved. The years of hard work, dedication and sacrifice can’t be lost to Covid devastation.

Stray Friends shelter has a purpose and is very much needed. It’s also a teaching facility which offers a hands on experience to the public where people can get to know the love of dogs.

Please help Save Our Shelter. Any donations are much appreciated.
