A mainland man who burglarised houses in Clear Water Bay and other districts ambushed and arrested by the police

Between mid-February and early May this year Police received four reports alleging that the doors and windows of houses in Clear Water Bay Sai Kung, Kwai Chung and Happy Valley areas had been forced open and signs of being burglarised. On Friday (6/5) a 43-year-old mainland man was successfully ambushed and arrested by police.

The total loss in the four cases exceeded HK$73,000. After collecting and analysing intelligence, and reviewing a large amount of CCTV footage, the intelligence team of Wan Chai Police District Police successfully located the man involved in the case. Officers from the Criminal Division of Wanchai Police District carried out an ambush operation at various locations in the district and found tools that may have been used in the burglaries. After further investigation, a 43-year-old mainland man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, loitering and having items for theft when going out, and is currently being detained for investigation.

During the operation, officers also seized the clothing worn by the arrested person when committing the crime, an Octopus card suspected to be involved in the case, and recovered about $2,100 in cash. The case was handed over to the Wan Chai District Crime Squad for further investigation.
