Continuous heavy rains over the past few days have caused the footpath on Clear Water Bay Road near Ng Fai Tin, Sai Kung to collapse down the hillside. A large amount of soil was washed away by the heavy rain, and part of the footpath collapsed exposing underground pipes. The authorities closed one of them yesterday (4/5) while the carriageway will be repaired. The authorities closed one of the traffic lanes for emergency repairs and implemented a single lane and two-way traffic on site. Secretary for Transport and Logistics Lam Sai-hung visited the site this afternoon (5/5). Workers from the Highways Department and Civil Engineering Department contractors are carrying out temporary reinforcement works. The temporary reinforcements will be completed as soon as tonight (5/5), and the two traffic lanes can be reopened tomorrow morning. According to on-site reports, workers are carrying out shotcrete work on the hillside to further consolidate the landslide part and prevent water from seeping into the soil.

Clear Water Bay Second Beach

The heavy rainstorm also left Clear Water Bay Second Beach devastated. Floodwater rushed straight from the hillside to the beach, carrying away a large amount of sand and rocks and forming a huge depression. Although some swimmers tried to swim into the sea on the beach, the water was found to be turbid and mixed with countless leaves and branches. The beach also raised a red flag due to water quality issues.
