Cannon Rock, Pak Kwo Chau, Sai Kung
Sai Kung is once again flooded with tourists, especially the outlying islands and country parks. However, many visitors do not take appropriate care, or indulge in sports that they are not familiar with or used to. Today (4/8) two accidents occurred in popular beauty spots, one fatal.
The first accident occurred about 10:00 am this morning, when a man in his 50s and a group of more than ten friends went hiking in the Ninepin Islands. On the way to Cannon Rock in Pak Kwo Chau, the victim accidentally fell off a cliff and fell down about 20 metres.
Emergency services rushed to his rescue after receiving a report from his friends, and the Government Flying Service also dispatched a helicopter to assist. Sources at the scene said that the injured person was unconscious when rescued, but recovered on his way to Eastern District Hospital for treatment. He suffered a head injury and a broken foot.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
The second accident, this time fatal, occurred around 11:00 am when, a man was suspected of drowning in Ung Kong Chau, Sai Kung. Emergency services arrived at the scene to rescue the victim, who was unconscious and was taken to the Marine Police base in nearby Sai Kung. He was then transferred to the Eastern District Hospital by a Government Flying Service helicopter. Sadly, he was confirmed dead at 1:00 pm. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
It is understood that the 42-year-old deceased rented a boat to go out to sea with 14 friends this morning. The victim and two friends went swimming. The friends got back on the boat first, and later hearing the deceased calling for help, called the police.
