Early this morning (29/8) around 1:00 am a reader of local Chinese language newspaper on.cc was driving along Clear Water Bay Road, Sai Kung, when he spotted a white dog in front of him when he was near Silverstrand Plaza. The dog was walking slowly on the road. At that time, the correspondent planned to get out of the car and take the dog off the road. When other drivers passing by saw this, they also slowed down and stopped. However, the dog kept running away. Seeing that he could not catch up with the dog the correspondent returned to his car and drove on. He posted a dashcam video of the incident to the on.cc website.
As can be seen from the second part of the video, when he had driven about 200 metres, he found that some cars in front had also slowed down, and the first one even turned on its emergency lights. In the video the dog is seen walking slowly along the road.
The correspondent parked his car and prepared to get off and see what was going on. At this time, a seven-seat van with a China-Hong Kong licence plate was approaching from the opposite lane. Unfortunately, it hit and ran over the white dog. The white dog rolled on the road after being hit.
One of the other drivers saw what had happened and stopped to check its condition. The seven-seater van did not stop, the driver continuing to drive along the road without stopping.
According to sources, the dog that was hit was injured and lying on the side of the road with blood oozing from its mouth and nose. Staff from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals arrived and took the injured dog away and handed it over to a veterinarian. Fortunately, after emergency treatment, he was in stable condition and happily returned to his owner.
