A dramatic traffic accident occurred in Sai Kung last night (11/1) around 6:45 pm. Police received reports from multiple motorists that a black car driving on Hiram’s Highway was suspected going out of control outside Mau Tai Road Garden, hit the roadside barrier, a road sign, and ended up in the bushes by the side of the road.

The car then caught fire. The 51-year-old male driver was trapped in the driver’s seat for a time, with blood flowing all over his face. Passing motorists helped rescue him, shouting “It’s on fire! Get out quickly.” Come on! Come on, come on!”

The driver walked out of the car unsteadily and lay on the roadside, groaning in pain. Firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving the report, opened a firehose and quickly extinguished the fire. The driver suffered minor injuries in the accident and was sent to Tseung Kwan O Hospital by ambulance for treatment. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
