17-year-old boy drowns while on a trip to Bluff Island, Sai Kung

Yesterday (20/4) afternoon, a 17-year-old boy and his family took a boat from Pak Sha Wan, Sai Kung to Bluff Island. During the trip, the boy paddled a rubber boat ashore towards the shore then disappeared. His family searched nearby and found that the boy was drowning 20 metres away from a beach on the island. They rescued him and called the emergency services. A Government Flying Service helicopter flew the victim to Eastern Hospital for emergency treatment, but he was later confirmed dead.

The Marine Police launched an investigation at the scene. The deceased was a British citizen holding a Hong Kong identity card. It was initially believed that there was no suspicion in the incident and the cause of death will be determined by a forensic autopsy
