A 49-year-old male worker collapsed while working at the Drainage Services Department’s sewage facility under construction on old Hiram’s Highway at the junction with Heung Chung Road, Sai Kung this morning – the concrete building under construction opposite Whitesand Cove. He was taken to the hospital and regained consciousness.

Police received a report around 10:00 am This morning (22/11) that two workers were working inside the facility. One of the workers was drilling into a five-metre-deep water tank when his clothing allegedly became tangled in the drill bit, causing him to lose his balance and fall from a two-metre-high platform, losing consciousness. He was rushed to Tseung Kwan O Hospital for treatment, later regaining consciousness and being transferred to a ward for further care.

The Drainage Services Department stated that the injured worker was installing electromechanical equipment on the B1 level at the time, and the site was not a confined space. They have sent personnel to visit the injured worker and provide appropriate assistance.

Many Sai Kung residents taking the bus to Hang Hau, Choi Hung or Kowloon will have been stopped by the traffic lights outside the construction site. If you’ve ever wondered what’s going on, the site is for a rural sewage project under the Drainage Services Department, scheduled for completion on 31 January 2026. Information shows that the department signed an engineering contract worth approximately HK$800 million with an engineering group on 24 July 2020. The project includes providing public sewage systems for Wong Chuk Wan, Wo Mei, Heung Chung, Tseng Lam Shue, Sam Long, Tai Po Tsai, and Po Toi O in Sai Kung District.
