So you don’t use AI yet. Well, AI is using you.
Every time you make a credit card purchase or ATM transaction an agentic AI bot is checking every point in the chain, from your physical location, the merchant’s trading record and ATM fraud record to your credit rating to minimise risk to the institution of fraud (your protection is secondary). AI in business is a reality that Business Analysts have just woken up to. All this information flows back into ever bigger data centres owned by a handful of Tech Giants, where it is used to create a panopticon (a circular prison with the cells arranged around a central well from which prisoners can be observed at all times) profile of you that they can share with their customers and, if demanded, the Government.
This is ostensibly for your security, but the simple fact is it’s target marketing on the top line, and centralised control of all information is simmering underneath. This is now moving into stealth mode, with the powerful companies serving the Government such as Palantir (an American publicly traded company that develops data integration and analytics platforms enabling agencies and Big Business) crafting specific media outlets, both online and print including what appear to be academic journals. These are intended to present their products to senior public sector and commercial management in the best light, without having to deal with inquisitive reporters or fussy editors.
The opportunity for abuse is clear. Where will all this lead? What do you think?
George Orwell: “If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face — forever. Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past. In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”
