Further updates of the fire safety improvement at the five-storey buildings in Sai Kung Town

Further to my visit to Sai Kung on 5 April 2026, some five-storey buildings in Sai Kung Town have started their fire safety improvement works:

1. Self-closing fire-rated doors are now being installed for the G/F electrical meter rooms in the buildings on Yi Chun Street and Po Tong Road.

2. In one of the electrical meter rooms in Yi Chun Street, most electrical installations for residential flats are protected by earth leakage circuit breakers (ELCB). As these five-storey buildings do not have their own transformers, and due to the design of the earthing system, ELCBs are necessary to reduce the risk of electric shock. Further improvement work in that electrical room is still required, like the installation of permanent lighting.

3. Notices are provided in a building on Yi Chun Street to remind people to refrain from blocking the means of escape.
