Architects reveal design of 270-room seaside hotel owned by Shaw Bros directors

hotel1.jpgPlans for the 270-room hotel on the waterfront opposite Hong Kong Academy have been revealed by architects Aedas Ltd.

It is to be a three-storey hotel with gross floor area of 26,910 sq metres owned by Cheer Regal Ltd.  The directors of this firm are heavies from TVB and Shaw Brothers: Mona Fong Yat-wah, octogenarian widow of Run Run, TVB non-executive director Charles Chan Kwok-keung and Shaw executive Raymond Chan Wai-man.

Aedas also designed this residential palace at Silverstrand

They paid $719 million for the plum sea-view site sold with planning permission for a low-rise hotel. Aedas said the development is due to be ready in 2016, but the Government said March 2017. With hardly a stick emerging out of the ground, the latter estimate appears more likely to be right.

Aedas said, “The design is intended to create a contemporary statement with a rural overtone” befitting Sai Kung. Integrated building blocks “re-interpret the diverse lifestyle experience with hotel, retail and leisure facilities.” Hotel rooms will be on the upper floors to give uninterrupted sea views. Recreational facilities will open onto a wedding garden.

The Aedas Design Director in charge is Cary Lau. Whether the low-rise development is going to be a mix of hotel and serviced apartments is not made clear.

Shaw Brothers heavies control new hotel with waterfront site

Aedas is a world-class architectural firm and one of the five biggest once controlled by Clearwater Bay resident David Roberts as Chief Executive and largest shareholder. He recently sold his stake and now acts for Henderson Land and other developers when he’s not at 35,000ft in a private jet.

Another Aedas development in our area is the new-build residence in 4000sq metres of Silverstrand woodland.  This 737sq metre palace is a cluster of three two-storey houses grouped around a rotunda library. It was built for a family so the parents could live in one house, daughter and her family in another, and guests in a third.
