107 youngsters hit the water in swimming races at Emerald Bay

swim2One hundred and seven youngsters took to the water recently in the VRC/KEEN Splash event. Organised by Sai Kung’s Basecamp, the swimming races saw teams from Taipo, Deepwater Bay and Shatin competing along with our local teams. There were races for kids from seven years to 14.

swim3Every child was given Zogg goggles, swim caps and KEEN trainers. It was the second Splash event and two more are planned for 2016, Basecamp proprietor Tim Stevens said. To ensure safety with so many kids hitting the water in Emerald Bay, Tim said they deployed three lifeguards and 12 boats manned by parents and volunteers.

The winners were Sam Thorley, male 13-14 year olds; Ryan Philips, male 11 – 12; Mia Rice, female 11-12; Luke Briscoe male, 9-10; Beauella Purcell, female 9-10; Jamie Lau, male 7-8 and Sadie Casey, female 7-8.

Basecamp also arranges fitness sessions in the Lions’ Nature Centre three times a week, adult and junior running groups and personal training.
