Charity event for Christian Action has now raised a total of $2.6 million

Christian Action’s three-legged walk on 25 March at the Clearwater Bay Golf Club brought hundreds of supporters together to raise money for underprivileged children in Tibet. It was the fifth such event and a total of $2.6 million has now been raised, a CA spokesman said.

Christian Action ranks among the largest unsubvented charities in Hong Kong, looking after abused domestic helpers, migrants and the underprivileged in Hong Kong plus orphaned and disabled children on the Tibetan plateau.

Executive Director Cheung-Ang Siew Mei introduced Eric, an 18-year-old with cerebral palsy, who lives at CA’s Xining children’s home at Qinghai. The charity recently arranged leg surgery in Hong Kong for Eric. “I am grateful to Christian Action for my treatment and surgery. Now I can walk a few steps,” Eric said.

Running three-legged for 90 minutes was intended to simulate what disabled people go through. The event at the Clearwater Bay club included a carnival with African drumming, other ethnic music and dancing, games and workshops. The golf club sponsored the occasion.
