First Saturdays in each month are quickly becoming the night of choice for live music aficionados, especially where local groups are concerned. Sai Kung LIVE! are doing sterling work organising the events at S2 Seafood and Bar on the waterfront. Last Saturday, many hundreds of locals, and not a few tourists, enjoyed 3 hours of non-stop live music.
First up were the Young Bucks, this time without their lead singer Ma. A folk/rock, pop, country fusion group, the lineup was Chris Ivany -vocals, guitar, percussion, harmonica; Shamus MacKinnon ā guitar, vocals; Jimmy Pittman – bass, vocals; and the ever young Ivan Strunin ā fiddle.

Second up were Pineapple Jam. This five-piece folk/bluegrass/alternative, with a hillbilly twang, certainly got everyone rocking. George, Simon, Nelly, Jadon, Kira are all from around Sai Kung and brought their local fan club along by the sound of it.

S2 is an interesting place to host live music. Although basically a glorified snack bar for visiting tourists it provided an airy, and relatively cool, venue, even if there were a few problems with the acoustics and sound balance.
There is a limited, if acceptable, range of drinks. But bewareā¦.the food is mainly deep fried frozen, with a range of, very bizarre, fusion type pizzas. Fill up first at some of the good eating places around town, and then come along and enjoy the music.
The next event is on Saturday 5 August, again starting at 8.00 pm. This time round it will be a different format, with three solo artists followed by a band – look at BUZZ for details very soon. If itās as popular as the recent event get there early to get a decent seat; it fills up quickly.
