Leapfrog began on 1 April 1992 and was set up by the Hong Kong Pre-school Playgroups Association in collaboration with six families looking to start their own playgroup in the Sai Kung area. Within the first four years the playgroup was at Li Po Chun United World College after which it moved to the Sai Kung Community Centre, living out of boxes of donated toys until the site here in Pak Tam Chung was found in 1996.
It was impossible to even get into the site because of the overgrowth so with the help of the local police force and volunteer parents the path, steps and playground were cleared. It took a year of hard work and some serious fund-raising to get the school ready and on 6 January 1997 the playgroup opened its doors.
The parents who first dreamt of the idea of a playgroup for their little ones always hoped that Leapfrog would prosper for years to come. The school has been lucky to have the support of many families over the years as well as local businesses through sponsorship of their annual fund-raising parties and they hope that many will join this celebration.
