A new church launches in Sai Kung next month after “we received a prophecy”. Destiny Church will open at the Hive business centre on November 5 at 10:30 am.
The church’s website does not say who received the prophecy or how it came. What it says is this: “In 2012 we received a prophecy. Destiny Church Hong Kong, you will be like a harbour pouring forth the fragrance of the living God.”
The postal address given for the church is 5 Tai Mong Tsai Road. BUZZ was informed about the church’s coming by one James Trower.
Hundreds of these fundamentalist churches, founded by “recognised apostle” Andrew Owen, have spread around the world. Trying to understand we looked up Destiny Church in New Zealand on Wikipedia. “It is a Pentecostal fundamentalist Christian movement notable for its position on homosexuality, its patriarchal views and its return to biblical conservative family values and morals.” Destiny Church believes in prosperity theology, as practised by some American TV evangelists, such as Oral Roberts. This is “the belief that financial blessing and physical well-being are always the will of God for them.” Worshippers believe the Bible is historically accurate and a contract for them with God.
It appears based on the website that Sai Kung’s Destiny Church will be delivering this prosperity theology message. Each Sunday’s service will have a different theme, “Work, Success, Time, Money.”

This church is not linked with Destiny Church in New Zealand. It originates from UK. Also this church would definitely have a different flavour from us as both James and I are quite different in many ways. I can’t comment much about their theology but I know James and I know he is a person with a passion to see people come to the Lord. I welcome him and his church as part of the Christian church in Sai Kung
Are you going to retract your inaccuracies? Whether you approve or not, people put in hard work to see there dreams come to fruition, and what you’ve written is obviously lazy journalism and not true. As per the one person you interviewed, this church has nothing to do with New Zealand.
Hi. This church, and the network of churches founded by Andrew Owen, definitely aren’t linked to the Destiny church in New Zealand. They don’t preach the prosperity gospel. They preach the gospel!
