Hebe Haven Yacht Club will once again open its doors to the general public, so that more people can experience the joy of sailing and other water based activities. As a key annual event, Hebe Haven Yacht Club Sailing Centre Open Day will be held this Saturday, 28 April, which will be open to the public at no charge, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The Open Day will be a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in water based sports to experience the sport of sailing, kayaking, and stand up paddle.
Ms. Lisa Keatley, General Manager of the Club, said, “We are delighted to once again open our doors to the general public for the 8th year running. This event is a highlight in the Club’s calendar and we are always delighted to see so many families from the local community join us. We encourage anyone interested in water sports to come along and experience the wonderful world of sailing. We have a number of boats available, to suit a range of ages and abilities. Water based activities are becoming popular and many of our guests do not realise, that despite being a private members Club, our Sailing Centre courses are readily available to everyone, members and non-members alike”.
The event welcomes the general public to have a go at dinghy sailing, stand up paddle and kayaking with the excitement on the water. Ashore, a mini carnival, will be set up in the garden bar offering interactive kids games, D.I.Y. art workshops, lifestyle merchandise and food stalls. Visitors can also learn more about how Sailability Hong Kong is empowering physically challenged athletes with the sense of freedom and control out at sea.
You will also be able to meet the Hebe Dragon Racing Squad, the club’s young Optimist and Laser racers and learn more about their path towards excellence in recent years – some of these sailors have been donning Hong Kong national colours in regional and international sailing competitions.
For the second year running, the Club’s ‘Sustainability Committee’ will be holding a ‘Car Boot Sale’ alongside the event. Too many items get sent to landfill, so why not recycle them.
The trial water sports activities are free of charge for adults and children above the age of seven. Each trial period will last around 30 minutes under the supervision of qualified instructors, who will demonstrate the basics and with safety equipment and precautions provided.
