Despite the No. 10 storm signal, Marine Police sent a 17-man rescue team to help four men on a sinking yacht in the waters of Sai Kung during Typhoon Mangkhut.

Three officers dived into the sea to save the men, who were clinging to the side of a vessel, onto the police launch. The waves were up to five metres high at the time. The rescue happened near Tsam Chuk Wan, off Sai Kung, according to Superintendent Law Ka-hong of the Marine Police.

Supt. Law said it was unusual to despatch police launches in No.10 storm conditions, but the four men were in such danger the police had to try. The four men rescued are all diving instructors who had gone to save their boat, but got into difficulties.
