Indonesian journalist Veby Mega Indah has been blinded in her right eye after allegedly being shot by a police officer standing only a few feet away, her lawyer Michael Vidler said.

Indah was covering the riots from the footbridge near the Wanchai MTR station entrance when this occurred. She is a reporter for the Indonesian newspaper, “Suara”. Vidler said that after medical treatment, Indah’s right eye will be permanently blinded because the pupil was damaged by external shock. Indah’s family has arrived in Hong Kong to support her.

According to evidence provided by a third party, it was a rubber bullet, not a beanbag round, fired by the policeman that hit Indah.

This is being reported on the Facebook page Be Water HK which carries English commentary on the Hong Kong riots. In turn Be Water is quoting the Ming Pao newspaper.

“Be water, my friend,” is the famous martial art tactic recommended by Hong Kong’s iconic star, Bruce Lee. The tactic has been adopted by current demonstrators rather than sitting in one place like Occupy Central five years ago.
