The Hong Kong Players will present their 58th pantomime from next week at the Wanchai Arts Centre’s Shouson Theatre. “Sleeping Beauty” is a re-imaging of the classic fairy tale directed by Eric Ng. It is based on the 1958 Walt Disney animated musical itself derived from Tchaikovsky’s 19th century ballet.
The panto tells the story of King Frump of the Seven Kingdoms who is celebrating the birth of his first child, Beauty. Unfortunately the evil fairy Marla curses Beauty to sleep for 100 years after her 18th birthday. Can Beauty, the Prince and his Squire, united with the good fairy Splenda face down the troubles confronting the Kingdom?
It’s an all-singing, all-dancing show that the Hong Kong Players have been rehearsing for months. Take along the whole family and enjoy. It’s on at the Arts Centre from 5 – 15 December with evening shows and on the weekends matinees. Adults $400 — 350; children and seniors $350 — 300.
